"C. C. Bliss, farmer living east of Clarksville, passed away at his home after a lingering illness on
Aug 14, at 9 pm. Charles Clark Bliss was born at Manchester, Iowa on August 4, 1861, the eldest
son of George and Ann Bliss. When still a young lad he moved with his parents to Pocohontas
county, Iowa and after a few years there, they moved again this time to near Bruning, Neb
(Thayer Co.) where he lived until 1905. On May 1, 1901 he was married to Clara Evalyn Hay of
Carleton, NE. In 1905 they moved to Warrensburg, MO (Johnson Co) where they resided until
1924, when they returned to Iowa and settled on the farm near Clarksville where he died.
Mr. and Mrs. Bliss are the parents of eight children. One daughter preceded him in death. He
leaves a wife and children, Margaret and Clayton at home, Henry of Greene, Dorothy of Tripoli
(Bremer); Maxine of Waverly (Bremer); Loyd of Ottumwa (Wapello) and Harlan of Clarksville. One
brother E.E. Bliss of Warrensburg, Mo and a number of nieces and nephews. His sister, Mrs.
George Thompson, (Alice) died in 1936. Funeral services were held from the community church,
Thursday afternoon, and burial was in Lynwood Cemetery."
