Son of Fred M. and Elvie Sutcliff Grant. Brother of Ted. Husband of Ernestine Vaughn for only a few months before his death. Serving as a bombardier-navigator during WWII, he was shot down on his first mission over Alkmaar, Holland. It was the first American air raid in Europe and Boyd was one of the first American deaths. Grant was a Graduate of Ouachita Parish High School and of Northeast Junior College (now ULM). He also attended LSU. Grant posthumously received the Purple Heart and was originally buried in the Allied Community Cemetery, Bergen, North Holland. In September of 1949, his remains were brought home to West Monroe.
