Edward G. (Tony) Sulak, age 83 of West, passed away June 2, 1999 at Providence Hospital in Waco.

A rosary was recited at 10:15 a.m. June 5 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Mass of Christian Burial followed at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Isidore Rozycki as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites followed at St. Mary's Cemetery near West provided by the V.F.W. Post No. 4819 of West.

Mr. Sulak was born on January 29, 1916 in West, the son of John A. and Mary Sulak. He attended West schools and graduated from West High School in 1934. He served the United States Army with the Medical Detachment in the 36th Division of the 143rd Infantry during World War II. He received a Purple Heart for injuries he sustained. He married Margaret Monette Bartosh on February 11, 1942 in Brownwood. He worked as a Lab Technician at the Veterans Administration Hospital for 25 years until he retired in 1980. Prior to that he was co-owner of the J.A. Sulak & Sons Gin in West. Tony enjoyed traveling after his retirement, playing his accordion, having coffee daily with the Ole Czech Bakery Coffee Group and playing with the Thursday morning band at West Rest Haven. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 4819, Purple Heart Association Chapter No. 476, Knights of Columbus No. 2305, S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 54, West Accordion Club and Czech Heritage Society. He was also a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West.

He is preceded in death by one brother, Ben Sulak, who died in 1985 and one sister, Della Grimm, who also died in 1985.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Sulak of West; one sister, Marguerite Hill of Dallas; several nieces and nephews including Susan Crain and John B. Sulak of West, Steve Sulak of Lampasas and Mary Lechler of Lorena; and many other relatives.

Pallbearers were the great-nephews, Zachary Crain, Ben Lechler, Andrew Sulak, John D. Sulak and friends, Steven Slay and Tim Orsak.

Honorary Pallbearers were the Ole Czech Bakery Coffee Group, and members of the V.F.W. Post No. 4819 and the Purple Heart Association Chapter No. 476.

Aderhold Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements.
