Louis J. Gajdosik, age 80 of West, died Thursday morning , Feb. 27, 1997, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Temple.

A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday, February 28 at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West by Rev. Ed Karasek.

Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 1 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Melvin Dornak as celebrant.

Military honors conducted by V.F.W. Post #4819 followed at the St. Mary's Cemetery, near West.

Mr. Gajdosik was born on Oct. 22, 1916, in West, the son of Charlie and Jennie Gajdosik. He married Margaret Lillian Chudej on Aug. 14, 1944, in West. Louis entered the United States Army in January 1941, where he trained at Camp Bowie in Florida and Massachusetts. He then went overseas in April 1943 to Africa and then to Italy where he served with the 142nd Infantry 36th Division. He was wounded at Casino in Italy. He is the holder of the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, two bronze Stars, Bronze Arrow Head and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was the owner of Gajdosik Shoe Service in West for 35 years until he retired in 1983. He was a member of the K.J.T. #31, 50-year member of V.F.W. Post #4819 in West, the American Legion, St. Mary's Altar Society and St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West.

He is survived by his wife, Margie Gajdosik of West; one son, Louis C. Gajdosek and his wife, Pam, of West; two daughters, Margie Rejcek and her husband, Eugene F. of West and Cathy Kilgore and her husband, Michael W. of Austin; two brothers, Jerry Gajdosik and Rudolf Gajdosik of West; three grandchildren, Shawn Rejcek of Corsicana, Amanda Gajdosik of West, Michael D. Kilgore of Austin; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Michael D. Kilgore, Ben Roy Hubenak, Jerry Chudej, Eddie Chudej, Raymond Chudej, Jr. and Wilford Gajdosik.

Honorary pallbearers were Shawn Rejcek and Amanda Gajdosik.

Aderhold Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements.
