Samuel was raised in Frederick County and was the husband of "Margaret" Ann Widrick Mort who survived him. Samuel was a farmer in the Mountaindale, Bethel area of Frederick County.

Samuel and Margreth were the parents of, Sarah Mort --?--, 1852; George Mort,1854; Charles G. Mort, 1856; Elvia G. Mort, 1858, who did not live to maturity; John Mort, December, 1859, who also did not live to maturity; Philip Mort. 1861; Emma Mort --?--,1866; Unknown Mort, 1870; Martha Mort, 1872; Laura Mort --?--,1868; Martha Mort --?--, 1872; Ida Mary Mort Rice, 1875 and husband Charles Andrew "C.A." Hammond and Phoebe Mort --?--, 1878 some if not all their children.

NOTE:
Margaret is believed to be a daughter of Jacob Widerick whom earlier had owned 175 acres of land called "Green Bottom",at Bethel, Jacob's father George Widerick had owned a 100 acre parcel of "Green Bottom" but do not know if the 100 acres was an inheritance or option to buy by birth right after the death of George, cannot locate a land record.
