Marjorie Louise (Gray) James
Leslie, MI

Born August 23, 1924 in Scottsburg, IN, the daughter of the late Glen and Pearl (Jonas) Gray, passed away September 3, 2012 at the age of 88. Marge was brought to Lansing when she was 9 months old. The family lived in many places in Michigan including Topinabee, Kawkawlin, and Standish where she graduated from High School in 1943. The family then moved to Lansing where she obtained employment as a bookkeeper for Sears Roebuck and Co. on Michigan Ave. in downtown. Marge moved with Sears into the Frandor location where she met and married another Sears employee, C. Ronald James in August 1951 and he passed away in October of 1995. They had two sons, Gregory Alan and Jon Charles, with whom she lived and was cared for prior to her death. She is also survived by a sister Barbara Roberts of Denton, TX; brothers, Harold (Lauralyn Puffer) Gray of Charlotte, MI and Harvey (Barbara Dane) Gray of Clermont, FL; as well as several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog Sparky. Marjorie and her family were former owners of a DeWitt Township Motel, from 1958 through 1984, from where she retired. She loved to travel and tour our beautiful National Parks. Her most recent trip was in May 2012 to the Smokey Mountain Park. In 2010 she visited a park and climbed over 600 steps just to see a waterfall and proudly wore a T-shirt stating the fact. Marjorie was a member of the Leslie United Methodist Church of Leslie, MI. She did extensive genealogical research and had extensive history on both sides of the family. She was an avid collector of Fostoria American Crystal, along with salt dips, toothpick holders and music boxes. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, September 7, 2012 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI officiated by the Rev. Don Buege. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 6, 2012 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Marge will be deeply missed by her family.
