AT REST
Again death has taken one of our old settlers, this time John Maust. Deceased was born in Sommersat Co. Pa., Dec 22, 1827 and died at his home in this village last Saturday after a lingering illness, dropsy being the immediate cause of death.
In early manhood he married Miss Kuney of Iowa, who departed this life eight years later. He afterward married Mrs. Minnie Kow and was the father of ten children, two of whom, Jake and Sam, survive him.
Mr. Maust came west in 1856 and settled on the farm south of town which was his home until a few years ago when he came to Preston to live. Upright dealing with his fellow man and thoughtfulness of the welfare of those with whom he came in contact earned for him life long friends. He was a consistent church worker and had been a member of the church of the Brethren for thirty years. In the absence of the pastor, H Keller of Winona was called and services were conducted in the Presbyterian church yesterday afternoon. The remains were laid to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery.
