MALLON ANNE LOUISE McGEORGE
Was born on September 12, 1923 in Ambridge, PA (35 miles Northwest of Pittsburgh). Her parents were C.S. McGeorge, M.D., originally of Darlington, PA and "Carrie" (Caroline Anne) Caulfield, born in Enon Valley, PA. Following her graduation from Radcliffe College in War-accelerated January 1945, she went to work at the Aetna Casualty Company, where, on that Ascension Thursday, she met Edward Vincent Mallon, Manhattan College and Columbia Law, on the "other side of the table" on a Claim she was adjusting. They went to Mass together that Holy Day, were soon engaged and, a year later, married at St. Paul's Cathedral in Pittsburgh. Anne, adopted the two children that Ed, a widower, had and together had five more children, one of whom died as a youth. Extremely active in civic affairs (Red Cross, Brownies and Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and the clubs and societies of the Church of the Immaculate Conception), Ed and Anne had settled in Montclair, New Jersey (the middle ground between their native states) and vacationed every summer at the family farm in Enon Valley and at Rock Harbor in Orleans on Cape Cod. When her youngest child was well into Elementary School in Montclair, Anne earned a Masters Degree at Rutgers University. Later studies included a Summer program at Trinity College in Dublin, where she "cemented" her love of, and academic specialization in, the poets, playwrights and novelists of Ireland. Several years after the death of her husband, she left her beloved Montclair, after nearly four decades, and bought a home in Whiting, NJ, where she lived until a year ago last Summer. She was very active there in her Parish, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, and in the Birthright Organization. Surviving her are her six children: Edward A. of Florida, Mary E. Flate of Nevada, Katherine A. Johnson of Virginia, William G. of South Carolina, Caroline A. Harris of Virginia and James C. of Virginia as well as eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother-in-law Dick Mallon, of Caldwell, NJ and sister-in-law Claire Marinan (Dick's twin sister), of Whiting, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at her Parish Church on February 27, 2008; her burial was at the family plot in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Upper Montclair, NJ. Anne's family wish to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Doctors and Staffs of the Crestwood Manor in Whiting, the Community Medical Center and the VanDyke Hospice (both in Toms River, NJ) for the extraordinary, loving care they gave their Mother during the final weeks of her life. Those wishing to make Memorial Gifts in her honor may do so to Birthright of Ocean County, 36 W. Water St., Toms River, NJ 08753, or: VanDyke Hospice, 99 Rt. 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755.
