Gospel preacher, teacher, principle. He spoke on the 7th Annual Bible Lectureship at Freed-Hardeman College in January 1943. He graduated from Freed-Hardeman College in 1927. Brother Burns was born at Maud, Ala., October 6, 1900. He first attended high school at Allsboro, Ala., and graduated from that high school. He next entered Freed-Hardeman College and remained there and graduated in 1926. Brother Burns worked during vacation in the Ford Motor Company, Detroit, Mich., to earn money to attend college. After graduating from Freed-Hardeman College, he attended Abilene Christian College, Abilene, Texas; Harding College, Searcy, Ark.; and State Teachers College, Florence, Ala. He has taught in the public schools of Alabama. Brother Burns became a Christian while in Detroit, Mich., being baptized by J. W. Shepherd at the Vinewood Church, in Detroit. In September 1934, he began regular work with the Sherrod Avenue Church, in Florence, Ala., and remained with the church there five years. He is now engaged in full-time evangelistic work and daily preaching by radio over station WMSD, Sheffield, Ala. More than thirty congregations and many individuals are cooperating with Brother Burns in his radio and evangelistic work. He has established three new congregations in the immediate Muscle Shoals district. He lives at Florence, Ala. --- Gospel Advocate, Jan. 28, 1941, 78.

He married Lena Hortense Cooke June 7, 1929 in Crockett County, TN. She was the daughter of Stephen Cooke and Myrtle Leath. She died June 5, 1973.
