Herman came to America as a young man. He is believed to have arrived @ 1893 and was accompanied by, or soon followed by, two of his brothers: Curt Erdmann Beyer who lived in St. Louis, Missouri and Alfred Beyer who lived in Detroit, Michigan. Herman settled in Staunton, Illinois.
On March 10, 1894, Herman Beyer married Martha Rosa Reinholt, daughter of Fredrich Wilhelm Reinholt and Theresa (Hamann) Reinholt, in Staunton, Macoupin County, Illinois. To this union nine children, four sons and five daughters, were born:

Minnie "Mina" Beyer

Herman Beyer was a coal miner and had been employed at the Consolidated Coal Mine in Staunton, Illinois.
At some point Herman Beyer changed the spelling of the family name from Beier to Beyer. It is said that it cost him $5.00 to make the change.
Herman Beyer passed away at his home in Staunton, Illinois on April 10, 1931. His death was due to cancer of the liver. He had been a patient for some time at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Granite City, Illinois and was brought home about a week before he died.
In addition to his wife, children and brothers Curt Beyer of St. Louis and Alfred Beyer of Detroit; at the time of his death, Herman Beyer was also survived by his aged mother Wilhelmine D. (Schmidt) Beier of Germany, his brother Bruno Beier of Germany, and two sisters Alma Beier and Minnie Beier of Germany. His father Gustav Emil Beier preceded him in death in 1905.
