Death called a second pioneer valley woman yesterday when Mrs. Ella May Holland, 97, a resident of the upper county and Ellensburg for the past 71 years, died at the Valley General Hospital. She had been ill for some time but hospitalized only nine days.

Ella May Holmes was born March 26, 1866 in Hartford City, WV and came to Roslyn with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Holmes. She resided there all the time since until three years ago when she came to Ellensburg to live with her daughter, Mrs. Barbara Lienhard. She was married to Edward Holland, September 9, 1882, in Alma, Illinois, and he died in May 1938. Mrs. Holland was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints, Pythian Sisters and the Rebekah Lodge.

Besides her daughter, Mrs. Lienhard, Mrs. Holland is survived by nine grandchildren, 15 great great grandchildren; a brother, Frank Holmes of Seattle and a sister, Mrs. Etta Owens of Cle Elum. Three daughters and a son preceded her in death.

Elder Glen Petre and Rev. Jack Dowers of Roslyn will officiate at funeral services Saturday, May 11 at 10:30 a.m. in the Evenson Chapel. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery.
