Edward Albert McCarty , son of John McCarty and Henrietta Markham McCarty, was born January 25, 1877 in Ramsey, Fayette County, Illinois. In 1880 the family was living in Irving, Illinois where his father was a constable. After her husband's death in 1891, Henrietta and her two sons, Edward Albert and George Fredrick, move to Litchfield, Illinois.

Edward Albert married Lillie May Butler on November 8, 1902 at the home of Lillie May's father, Jesse Butler, in Raymond, Montgomery County, Illinois. After their marriage, they lived in Hillsboro, Illinois. They were the parents of Laura Magdalene, Charlie Edward, Harold Lamar, George Marion, Dorthea Cremilla, Helen Lucille, Uyulass Birchard Mickey, and John Kenneth. Their first born child, Laura Magdalene, died at birth. She was buried in Irving, Illinois.

Edward , Lillie May, and their two sons, Charlie Edward and Harold Lamar, moved to the Whitehouse Township, Woods County, Oklahoma in the early part of 1908. Their son, Harold Lamar, died at 17 months of age. He was buried in Cora, Oklahoma. In 1915 the family moved to the northeastern section of New Mexico, where Edward Albert homesteaded southwest of Farley, Colfax County, New Mexico.

In 1925, due to the drought and dust bowl, they moved to Arkansas and then to Missouri. The family moved back to the Mofax Community in 1928. Their youngest son, John Kenneth died in 1928 and Edward Albert died in 1930. Both were buried in the Mofax Cemetery.
