Balut, Sr., 72, of Willow River on Monday, November 18, 1996 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Willow River, Father Norm Pahl being the celebrant. Organist was Gertie Maniak and members of the quartet were John Maniak, Becky Balut, Jackie Kwapick and Mary Johnson. Casket bearers were Kevin Ketchmark, Eugene, Jr., Thomas, Scott, Richard, Jr., Lance, David, Jr., Travis and Joseph Balut III. Burial was held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Willow River, MN.

Joseph Louis Balut was born on March 12, 1924 to John and Magdalene Balut in Willow River where he grew up and attended school. He was a lifetime resident of Willow River. He was united in marriage on September 7, 1946 to Irene J. Gresczyk in St. Mary's Church in Willow River. Joe owned and operated a dairy farm from 1940 to 1977. He also drive truck from 1948 to 1957. He was a millworker for Conwed Corp. from 1957 to 1977, retiring at the age of 55. Joe was a member of St. Mary's Church.

Joseph passed from this life on Thursday, November 14, 1996 at Pine Health Care Center in Sandstone having attained the age of 72 years, 8 months and 2 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Dean, a granddaughter, April Balut, two brothers, Frankd and Valentine, and a sister, Florence.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Irene of Willow River, two daughters, Janell Ketchmark of Maple Grove, MN, Bernadette Balut of Coon Rapids, MN, five sons, Eugene of Bruno, David (Kristy), Richard (Cindy) and Bernard, all of Willow River, and Joseph, Jr. (Becky) of Apple Valley, MN; two sisters, Margaret (Lawrence) Wodziak of Columbia Heights, MN and Philomae Mikrot of Willow River; 14 grandchldren, two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend of the family, Jackie Kwapick.
