Mr. Duncan retired in 1981 from Union Carbide Nuclear Division as a chemical operator at the Oak Ridge K-25 Site.
At one time, he had owned Duncan Motors, an Oak Ridge automobile dealership.
He was born in Overton County on Jan. 20, 1916, the son of John B. and Susie Cole Duncan. He moved to Oak Ridge from Columbus, Ohio, 54 years ago.
Mr. Duncan was a member of Highland View Church of Christ. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gardening and working in his yard, his family said.
He is survived by his wife, Flossy Alice Evans Duncan; his daughter, Suzanne Duncan Hall and her husband, Hubert, of Oak Ridge; two sons, Samuel E. Duncan and his wife, Maxine, of Farragut, and David M. Duncan and his wife, Linda, of Oak Ridge; his brother, Lee Duncan and his wife, Burton, of McMinnville; and two sisters, Della May Ragan of Montgomery, Ala., and Lorene Edge and her husband, Earl, of Mississippi.
Mr. Duncan is also survived by his grandchildren, Sam Duncan Jr. and his wife, Diane, and Hubert Hall Jr. and his wife, Julia, all of Knoxville, Tina Miller and her husband, Ben, of Oliver Springs, Brent Duncan and his wife, Angela, and Bryan Duncan and his wife, Tina, all of Clinton, Teresa Jackson and her husband, Tim, of Oak Ridge, and Kim Cordell and her husband, John, of Hixson; and by 10 great-grandchildren.
Another son, Owen Earl Duncan Jr., and a brother, J.B. Duncan Jr., died earlier.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, April 9, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with minister Martin Pyle officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 10, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
