Burrell Stephens was born on Jan. 2, 1868 near Oneida, Scott Co., Tennessee. He was the first of 10 known children born to Jeptha "Jep" (King) Stephens (1846-1900) and Martha Laxton (1849-1898).

His father, Jeptha, better known as "Jep" was born near Pine Knot, Whitley Co. (now McCreary Co.). He was the son of "Dipen" Burl King (1825-1917) and Virginia (?) Jane (Stephens) King. Jep's mother died when he was about four years of age. His father's second wife , Rebecca Stephens (1835-1901), is thought to not have been a sister but a cousin to his first wife. She was the only mother that Jep ever knew.

Burrell's father, Jep Stephens, was actually a King who used the maiden name (Stephens) of his biological mother (Jane Stephens) and his unofficial adoptive mother (Rebecca Stephens) instead. It is interesting to note that Jep named his first son, Burrell, after his father, but spelled the named slightly different. In addition, he named his second daughter, Rebecca Jane Stephens, apparently after both of his mothers.

Burrell Stephens was a GG-grandson of Thomas Murray"Tom" King (1790-1880), the patriarch of the King family in McCreary Co. (then a part of Whitley Co.), KY. Thomas had moved his family to the lower Marsh Creek area of Whitley Co.(now McCreary Co.) from Campbell Co., Tennessee about 1819 (1829?).

Burrell's mother, Martha, was born in Bowl, Campbell Co. (now Scott Co.), Tennessee. The little community of Bowl no longer exists. She was the daughter of Alfred Gallatin Laxton (1819-1892) and Sarah E. "Sallie" Thomas (1825-1893). Both of Martha's parents were born in Campbell Co. (now Scott Co.), TN and both died there. They are buried in the Laxton Family Cemetery in Oneida, Scott Co., TN.

Sometime between 1882-85 Burrell's father, Jep, moved his family from Scott Co., TN to Hamby, Taylor Co., Texas. Burrell was in his teen-age years when his parents made the move.

Burrell married Mildred Frances "Fannie" Wakefield in Wichita Falls, Wichita Co. Texas on Feb. 4, 1900. Burrell was 32, Fannie just 16. She was the daughter of John Henry Wakefield (1840-1914) and Elizabeth Rachelle "Lizzie" Hood (1851-1931). Both were born in Georgia and both died in Oklahoma.

Burrell and Fannie were married for 51 years and had six known children. In order of their birth they were Arthur McConnell "Mac" Stephens (1900-1968), Margaret Grace Stephens (1903-1890), John Paul Stephens (1907-1984), Robert Carroll Stephens (1910-1984), Morris Stephens (1913-1997) and Ila Burnetta Stephens (1913-1997).

Burrell, a long time preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, died on May 20, 1951 in Fayetteville, Washington Co., Arizona at the age of 83. He body is buried in Friendship Cemetery located in Springdale, Washington Co., Arkansas.

Burrell's wife, Fannie, died on Apr. 12, 1958 in Springdale, AZ at the age of 74. She too, is buried in the Friendship Cemetery, next to her husband, Burrell.
