GEORGE W. LEIST, 85, of Barboursville, passed away Monday, March 24, 2003, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at noon Thursday, March 27, 2003, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by Pastors Bill Davis and Pete Davidson. Entombment will be in Ridgelawn Abbey of Remembrance Mausoleum. He was born July 18, 1917, in Barboursville, a son of the late Carl and Louella Baumgardner Leist. He was retired from the C&O Railway and was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of VFW Post #1064 and the American Legion in Huntington. He was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie Sibley Sowards Leist, and one brother, Carl Leist Jr. He is survived by one sister, Eula Holley of Ona; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Charlene Leist and Charles and Marie Leist, all of Huntington; two stepsons, Brian Sowards and his wife Sue and Jerry Sowards and his wife Joan, all of Huntington; three stepgrandchildren, Jerry, Kurt and Scott Sowards; seven nieces, Teresa Lucas and her husband Doug, Crystal DePriest and her husband Steve, Connie Nicely and her husband Ron, Mary Holley, Jennie Hughes and her husband Tom, Carla Templeton and her husband Paul, and Jennifer Aliff and her husband Jimmy; four nephews, Mike Holley, Rickey Holley and his wife Nora, Philip Leist and his wife Nancy, and Kevin Leist; and a special friend, Hughie Cyrus.
