John Valentine Love was the son of Henry O'Neil Love and Julia Knox Love.

John married Margaret Dabney about 1901 in Evergreen Methodist Church, San Jacinto County, Texas. This was the first marriage performed in this new church.

There were 5 children of this union: Robert Blackburn, Kathleen, Clifton Henry, John Valentine, Jr. and Joel Columbus Love.

Kathleen Love died of Typhoid Fever at age 19.

John owned and operated a cotton gin in Cold Springs and his sons helped with the work. The cotton gin burned and John devoted his time to his farm.

John believed in education and was a teacher in earlier years. There was no transportation to school so the children walked or rode horseback or a little donkey, called Alex, 3 miles to the schoolhouse.

John Valentine died at the age of 89 and was buried next to his wife Maggie in the Oakwood Cemetery at Cold Springs, Texas.
