John Valentine Love was the son of Henry O'Neil Love and Julia Knox Love.
John married Margaret Dabney about 1901 in Evergreen Methodist Church, San Jacinto County, Texas. This was the first marriage performed in this new church.
There were 5 children of this union: Robert Blackburn, Kathleen, Clifton Henry, John Valentine, Jr. and Joel Columbus Love.

John owned and operated a cotton gin in Cold Springs and his sons helped with the work. The cotton gin burned and John devoted his time to his farm.
