Royce J. "Gus" Dettmer, 69 of Edwardsville, Ill., born March 20, 1940, in Edwardsville, Ill., died at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at the Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville, Ill.
He was a retired operating engineer working out of local 520 in Mitchell, Ill. He worked for C.E. Mahoney Co., in Swansea, Ill., and he served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Gus was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav and Leola, nee Weidner, Dettmer; and a brother, Darl Dettmer.
Surviving are his wife, Rosemary, nee Svoboda, Dettmer, whom he married on June 27, 1970, at St. Mary's Church in Edwardsville, Ill.; son, A.J. (Joella) Dettmer of Moro, Ill.; daughter, Sarah Dettmer of Ballwin, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
