Varsil Marion Casper, 33, Bingham high school teacher and veteran of World War II died Monday in his residence after a lingering illness.
Mr. Casper, a resident of Sandy 23 years, was born Oct. 3 1917, in Union, a son of Arthur C. and Alley A. Brady Casper. He and Mildred Stapley Vincent were married June 24, 1949 in Salt Lake Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was president of the Sandy third LDS ward elders' quorum and was a teacher in the Sunday school program, prior to his leaving for the army. On his return from the service he was made superintendent of the Sandy third ward Sunday school and was secretary of the Elder's quorum at the time of his death.
He entered army service in February 1941, and served in the Asiatic-Pacific area. A bronze star recipient, he also held four battle stars. He was honorably discharged as a technical sergeant Aug. 30, 1945.
He was graduated from the University of Utah in June, 1949. He was an active member of Sandy third LDS Ward.
In additional to his widow and mother, Mrs. Alley Morrell, he is survived by three brothers; Keith C. Casper, Salt Lake City; Jesse B. Casper, Murray, and Arthur L. Casper, Sandy; and three sisters; Mrs. Delbert (Arzell) Stones and Mrs. Glen (Alleen) Campbell, both of Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Noal (Evelyn) Bollinger, Sandy.
