Martha Curry was born in Pennsylvania between 1794 and 1801 - date is under review.
Sources for Martha's date of birth: 1) age 52 on 1850 census (b. about 1798); 2) age 52 when she died (b. about 1801); 3)DOB 26 Oct 1794 supplied by Contributor Bruce Sonner, # 47387316 possibly from a burial record at Wells County library ... this is under review and may be updated.

Martha Curry married Daniel Coolman 8 Feb 1821 in Preble County, Ohio. They were both born in Pennsylvania in the late 1790s and arrived in Preble County about 1815. In 1850 the lived in Jefferson township, Preble County and were both listed as age 52. They had two children (not theirs) in their household - Joanna Wells age 13 and Thomas M Sellars age 11. The relationship of these children to them is uncertain. Later in 1850 they "emigrated" to Wells County, Indiana where Martha's nephews Robert and Josiah Curry lived (Union township). Martha's obituary abstract (reported in her previous home county) relates the following:

"Coleman, Martha, died September 26, 1853, consort of of Daniel Coleman, age 52. Resident for 35 years[*], had emigrated to Wells County, Indiana in 1850."
[* resident of Preble County, Ohio for 35 years]

Joanna Wells likely moved with Martha and Daniel to Wells County, since a Joan [sic, Joanna] Wells married Benjamin Jones in Wells County in September 1854 by a Justice of the Peace who lived in Union township. Benjamin later served in the Civil War and died in neighboring Adams County in 1880 (see memorial: Benjamin Jones , Crawford Cemetery). They named two of their children Daniel and Martha.

Martha's nephew Robert Curry is buried in nearby Hoverstock Cemetery. He lived in Preble County, Ohio and Wells County, Indiana where he was a pioneer. A biography of Robert Curry can be found on Rootsweb message board.

Contributed by SheilaJ, 49408557, 3rd great granddaughter of Joanna Wells and Benjamin Jones. Note that some descendants referred to her as Annie Brown ... Joanna was widowed in 1880 and may have remarried, and been affectionately known by Annie ... no records yet to verify Brown surname; many records for Wells surname. DNA matches between Joanna's descendants and descendants of Martha Curry's siblings have been found.
