Josephine would have been born on a farm in the Bardstown and Newburg Roads and Beargrass Creek area. Her father was a dairyman. He died in 1863. Her mother married William Stuckenberg 21 Nov. 1865. Her mother died 1867-1870. William Stuckenberg became the Guardian of Josphine and her siblings on 26 Sept. 1870. William remarried 11 Oct. 1870. Josephine's stepmother was Gertrude Borkmeyer.

Josephine married August Beckmann 2 March 1886. They had a daughter, Gertrude Anna Ferdinanda born 31 May 1866. She died at age of nine months on 26 March 1887 of tuberculosis meningitis. A son, Albert, was born in Dec. 1888, six months after the death of August on 9 May 1888 of consumption.

Josphine married Frank A. Beckmann on 10 August 1892. Frank had been married to Louisa Schnickinger who was deceased. They had two children, Agnes and Elenora. Josephine and Frank had had a dairy farm on Poplar Level Road where youngest daughter Irene was born. They moved back to Frank's homeplace and leased the garden ground from his father. Frank died 1 Dec. 1906. The farm was sold; however, Josephine remained and was shown on the 1910 census as a Truck Farmer and was renting.

Josephine and Frank had five children; Matilda, Edward H., Frank B., Irene Rose and Lee.

Josphine bought 12 1/2 acres at Gilmore Lane and Poplar Level Road on 18 June 1923. She lived there the remainder of her life until she went to live with her daughter Matilda.
