Auburn Resident since 1919

Was offered a scholarship to Dotre Dame, however his father sent him to Washington State. He was Protestant.

Career: State senator, Auburn Journal owner-publisher

Bought the Auburn Journal on March 17th 1919 and was the owner until he died from a heart attack in 1950.

A story written the week of his death noted the paper's editorial policy under Cassidy:

"If you did it, and we published it, blame yourself and not us."

V.M. Cassidy, brother of Bert A. Cassidy of the Auburn Journal, suffered a severe heart attack while at his work in the Federal Lank Bank in Oakland on Thursday afternoon of last week. He was rushed to an Oakland hospital where his condition is still very serious.
