Irvin W. Johnson was the grandson of Dr. William T. Johnson who died 1823 in Marengo County Alabama. Irvin's father died before 1840 and Irvin was raised by Dr. W.T.J.'s daughter, Frances Ann (Johnson) Ivens.

Irvin W. Johnson and Martha Roberts were married 20 January 1851 in Marengo County Marriage Records, Volume 2, Page 423.

Irvin Johnson and his wife Martha named a son William. He could have been named for William Roberts, father of Martha Roberts; but just as easily could have been named for Dr. William Johnson. They also named a daughter Frances Ann, obviously to honor Frances Ann Johnson Ivens, who was most certainly at least Irvin's surrogate Mother.

Children of Irvin W. Johnson & Martha Roberts:
1. George Washington Johnson
2. Frances Ann Johnson Perry
3. William Francilla Johnson
4. Virginia 'Jennie' Johnson
5. Irvin Wayne "Bush" Johnson

Irvin W. Johnson and his family were enumerated on the 1860 Grove Hill, Clarke County Alabama census as Irvin T. Johnston age 27, Martha Johnston age 28, George W. Johnston age 8, Frances A. Johnston age 6, William T. Johnston age 4 and Virginia Johnston age 1.

On April 5, 1862 Irvin W. Johnson enlisted in the Confederate 43rd Alabama Regiment, Company E as a private. He was age 30, married, planter, residence Morvin, Alabama.

Irvin W. Johnson's youngest son, Irvin Wayne "Bush" Johnson, was born in January of 1865.

Irvin was a Prisoner of War and died May 14, 1865 at Fort Lincoln, Point Lookout, Maryland. This is verified by page 11 of Irvin's Civil War Registry. See photo section.
