JOSEPH MARSHALL THURMAN JR., 73, of Memphis, formerly of Crenshaw, Miss., proprietor and insurance adjuster for Thurman and Associates, died Friday in Memphis after a stroke. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel with burial in Memorial Park. He was a member of Al Chymia Shrine, Scottish Rite DeSoto Lodge, and the National Truck and Heavy Equipment Claims Council. Mr. Thurman, the husband of Dorothy Dale Thurman, also leaves four daughters, Barbara Presley of Crenshaw, Susan Hirsch of Newport Beach, Calif., and Stephanie T. Wilson and Melinda Simpson, both of Memphis; a son, Joseph Marshall Thurman III of Memphis; two sisters, Katherine Kendall of Germantown and Barbara F. Thurman of Key West, Fla., and six grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Shrine Hospital Fund or to Crenshaw United Methodist Church.
