Burried in the (no longer existing) church of the Jesuits in Brussels.
He studied in Geneva in 1600, fought in 1604 in Hungary against the Turks, became in 1609 officer in the army of the Dutch Republic (since some 40 years at war with Spain), was in 1612 chamberlain of the German emperor and switched in 1613 to Catholicism. In 1614 he became marquess of Monte Caballo. In 1629 he bought the barony of Renaix (Ronse).
He finally went over to the Spanish and took service in the Spanish army. 1623: colonel; 1627 Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece; 1629 Imperial Field marshal. In 1631 he suffered a heavy defeat in Zealand.
