Lawyer and elected Mayor of Little Rock, Ark. in 1849.
Mr. Roswell was the first benefactor of the city of Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas. The Town of Beebe, White County, Arkansas is named after him.
He fought with Andrew Jackson in 1815 in The Battle of New Orleans.
In early 1839 Roswell acquired 240 acres of land which comprised most of Little Rock, Ar. He then went to Washington D.C. and recieved the original patent for the town of Little Rock, signed by the President.
Roswell donated the land to the state for a school and 4 blocks for a cemetery, which became Mount Holly Cemetery. He further planned the roads and streets for the city. His main attention in the 1840's was real estate. His biggest business venture being the Cairo and Fulton Railroad which came to be a big part of the St. Louis, Iron Mountain, and Southern Railroad Company.
Cemetery Records and family records indicate Roswell Beebe was married three times: 1) Clarissa Eliot 19 Sep 1835, 2) Julia Mitchell Beebe Fraser.
