Son of John and Abigail (Carter) Nourse.

On 12 Jul 1861 John, a comb maker, mustered into service with Company A, the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, being credited to the quota of Leominster, Worcester County, Massachusetts. He was 20 years, 4 months and 24 days old.

On 1 Aug 1862 John ended military service with the 15th Massachusetts due to disability.

On 19 Mar 1870 John Waldo Nourse, 29, married Eliza Vinton Stone, 21, daughter of James D. and Lydia Stone, at Hartford, CT. They had eight children, and five were still living in 1900.

John made application at Connecticut for a veteran's pension on 11 Aug 1890.

On 4 Dec 1913 Eliza, his wife, died at age 65.
