BIG SPRING - Jonnie Lea Raburn "Granny" Cypert, 96, of Garden City, died on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at the Parks Methodist Nursing Home in Odessa. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at the Nalley-Pickle and Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring with Don Mitchell of Midland and Doyle Maynard of Big Spring, officiating. Interment will follow at Garden City Cemetery in Garden City.

The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home.

She was born on July 2, 1913, in the town of San Saba, Texas, to the late John Calvin Raburn, Jr. and Alberta Martin Raburn of San Angelo. She was united in marriage on July 22, 1932, to James T. Cypert, Sr. (J.T.) in Lovington, New Mexico.

In 1955, Jonnie and J.T. moved to Garden City, Texas, where they began their Butane Service and operated a local cafe and a vegetable and cotton farm for many years. Jonnie won state in high jump while in high school and was center on the basketball team and was never out jumped.

Jonnie was the County Treasurer of Glasscock County from 1963 to 1983. She was member of the Garden City Church of Christ.

Her most precious treasure in life was being surrounded by her family. She loved to quilt, make ceramic dolls and oil paintings in addition to collecting dolls and birdhouses. Her most loved pastime was to play Skipbo, no one could beat her at the game even at 96.

Jonnie was survived by three sons and four daughters, James T. Cypert Jr. and wife, Nita of Garden City, Delia Arthur and husband, Granvil of Gardendale, Sandi "Bertie" Snegireff and husband, Sergei of Scottsdale, Ariz., Dennie Cypert and wife, Dawn of Midland, John Wayne Cypert and wife, Linda of Garden City, Sharon Ifera and husband, Ray of Crane, Frances Grisham and husband, Charlie of Odessa; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Doris Fiveash of Eola, Bernice Stuart of Austin and Patsy Carter of Tennessee and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.T.; a son, Calvin; three brothers, Theron, Henry and Edward (Burr) Raburn; two sisters, Mary and Gladys; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Darrell Cypert, Donnie Cypert, Ed Wayne Cypert, Philip Ifera, Aaron Arthur and Charlie Grisham, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are grandsons, Steve Arthur, Chris Cypert, Richard Cypert and Glenn Colee.
