Mrs. Winchester was an active member of First Baptist Church.
She was born in Whitley County, Ky., on Dec. 13, 1917, the daughter of G.S. and Nannie Johnson Hill. At the age of 11, she moved with her parents to Pruden, Tenn. There she met and later married her husband, Cecil V. Winchester, who survives her. The Winchesters celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary earlier this year.
Because of her husband's military career with the U.S. Marine Corps, the couple moved often. Her family described Mrs. Winchester as a homemaker whose devotion to her husband and children made every new house a home.
Her family said she was known and admired for her skills in needlework, baking and gardening, and she shared these talents with friends as well as family.
Following her husband's retirement after 30 years of service, the couple moved to Oak Ridge.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Winchester is survived by her two children, John Winchester and his wife, Joanne, of Alexandria, Va., and Judy Steen and her husband, Kent, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; her sister and brother, Jennie Hill and Gorman Hill, both of Oak Ridge; and by three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Dipboye officiating.
Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at Weatherford Mortuary.
The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to First Baptist Church, 1101 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830; or to Covenant Hospice, Attn: Steve Freeman, 183 Lafayette Drive, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
