Funeral services for Blanch Merriam, 79, were held Wednesday, July 5, 1989 at the Community United Methodist Church. Rev. Lon Lewis officiated. Mrs. Merriam died Sunday, July 1, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Cathy Aldrich, organist, accompanied Gene Aldrich, who sang "Ivory Palaces." Flowers were cared for by Mary and Eva Burgess, Mrs. Carl Hagge, and Lenore Elliott. Casket bearers were Roger Christensen, Rex Christensen, Paul Christensen, Stan Williams, Carl Hagge, and Dean Ohlson. Honorary bearer was Bill Sparks.

Blanch Merriam was born November 3, 1909 in Kelley, the daughter of Charles and Selma Peterson. She married O.W. Merriam October 6, 1949 in Des Moines. Blanch was a member of the Community United Methodist Church.

Survivors are four sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Bill McKee of Boone; Flora and Drexel Wheeler of Atlanta, Georgia; Edith and Joe Nordine of Madrid; and Edna and Winfield Rosenburger of Ames; and a brother, Charles of Rock Island, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, and one sister. Burial was at Glenwood Cemetery, Ogden, Iowa.
