On Sept. 23, 2009, Billy D. Smith of Barstow, self-employed businessman and former owner of Allstar Towing, died of natural causes at the age of 64.
He is survived by his mother, Wilma N. Smith (owner of Smith's Feed) of Barstow; sons, Billy J. Smith of Joplin, Mo., and Randall E. Smith of Barstow; grandson, Raymond L. Smith of Joplin, Mo.; granddaughter, Cassie L. Smith of Port Townsend, Wash.; and great-granddaughter, Alexis Smith of Joplin, Mo.
A tribute parade was held by local towing companies and other various organizations in his honor on Oct. 10. 2009 at 7 p.m. It began at Heartland Truck Stop and proceeded to the former Barstow Mall.
