Edna Velma, daughter of William and Wilhelmina (Hansen) Bruhn, was born May 26, 1928, in Manning, Iowa. She grew up near Manning and attended country school near Gray.
On April 5, 1947, Edna was united in marriage with Melvin Roy Nissen. Five children were born to this union. Edna and Melvin made their home and farmed northwest of Manning. After Melvin passed away unexpectedly in 1976, Edna continued to enjoy farm-life with the help of her family.
Edna was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. She loved to quilt, sew, garden and read. She loved her family and cherished trips to Arizona to see Judy.
In December of 2020, Edna became a resident of Accura Healthcare of Manning, where she passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021. She was 92 years, 8 months and 12 days of age.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin Nissen, a son-in-law Murray Hines, two brothers George and Herbert Bruhn, and a sister Louise Philpott.
Edna is survived by her five children: Robert (Linnet) Nissen of Manning; Gloria (Marc) Thorson of Akron; Judy Hines of Urbandale; Randall Nissen of Manning; Joan Carr of Slater; nine grandchildren: Trent, Tracy, Lindsay, Chris, Timothy, Shelley, Jessica, Jeremy and Katlyn; thirteen great-grandchildren; a sister Ann Stillman of Emmetsburg; a brother William (Louise) Bruhn of Manning; and by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
