BATES, SHANNON DENNIS
age 30, of Luttrell, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 29, 2008. Everyone who knew Shannon will agree that he enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a big man with a big heart and had a tremendous compassion for others who were in need. He loved to travel and especially enjoyed cruising in the Caribbean with his wife, DeeDee. One of his greatest thrills was gliding through the jungle of Costa Rica. He was the manager of Bates Market in Luttrell, a family owned and operated market and deli. In his younger years, Shannon was an avid, competition go-cart racer. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Earl and Opal Bates, and his maternal grandfather, Robert Taylor. Left to mourn his passing are his loving wife and best friend, DeeDee; step-children Olivia and Kendall; beloved mother, Joan Bates; loyal father and step-mother, Denny and Cindy Bates; sister Paula Shawn Braden; step-sister Elisha Brewer; grandmother Jean Taylor; step-father Howard (Skip) Flynn; and his best buddy, Isaac Rayfield. Shannon is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends whom he loved very much and who will miss him dearly. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Cooke Mortuary in Maynardville with funeral service to follow at 8:00 p.m. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hickle Cemetery. Rev. James Russell and Rev. Bob Zavattieri officiating. Pallbearers are Chris Brasher, Barron Booker, Brandon Booker, Adam Buckner, Ashley Moore, Joe Moore, David Taylor, and Jerry Welch.
