Before entering the War, Arthur worked for the Lubin Studios in Philadelphia. As an actor, he appeared in 49 films from 1912 to 1918. Here is a list of most of his silent films:

After Arthur's death, his wife remarried. Her second husband was Howard G Whiteway. She then changed the name of her only child, Stanley Matthews to Stanley Whiteway.
