Erastus Noah7 Gary {Erastus? Esq., William? Josiah? Samuel? Nathaniel? Arthur1) was born in Warrenville, Ill., Sept. 8, 1844. He removed with his parents in early life to their new home in Wheaton, Ill. He married first, Ellen M. Guild, born July 7, 1846, daughter of Rockwell and Mary (Thatcher) Guild. She died in Wheaton, Ill., Sept. 11, 1870, and he married second, in Wheaton, Ill., June 2, 1873, Caroline H. Wheat, born in Bridgeport, N. Y., June 23, 1850, daughter of James D. and Louisa (Lilley) Wheat. Noah Gary, as he was most familiarly known, having dropped to a large extent his first name, served his country in the Defense of the Union in the Civil War. Later he was admitted to the Bar of Illinois and was engaged in the practice of law with his brother, Elbert H. Gary and Judge Hiram H. Cody in Chicago, under the firm name of Gary, Cody & Gary. He was a man of strong in dividuality and was highly respected for his personal worth and legal ability. He was much interested in genealogical and historical research and had accumu lated a large amount of data for a genealogy of his own family, which collection was unfortunately destroyed by fire several years ago. He died in Wheaton, Ill., Feb. 2, 1894, m his 50th year. His widow now resides in San Monica, Cal. Children of Erastus Noah and Ellen M. (Guild) Gary: (born in Wheaton, Ill.) i.
