Mr. Blanton was retired from Union Carbide Nuclear Division, where he was a process operator at the Y-12 Plant. He was employed at Y-12 from April 15, 1953 to July 1, 1972.
He was born April 6, 1916, in Atlanta, Ga., the son of George W. Blanton and Pauline Hawkins Blanton. He was a Baptist.
Mr. Blanton is survived by his wife, Leona Wright Blanton; a daughter, Pat Shelton and her husband, Jerry, of Seymour; two sons, Bob Blanton, and his wife, Brenda, of Knoxville, and Ron Blanton, and his wife, Pat, of Oak Ridge; and two sisters, Marie Brewton and Wiline Robbins, both of Knoxville.
He is also survived by six grandchildren, David Blanton of Knoxville, Jason Blanton of Maryville, Barbara Blair of Wartburg, Tracey Frances of Greenback, and Terri Galyon and Brenda Canupp, both of Seymour; and by nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 8:30 tonight, July 7, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Benny Miller officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the mortuary.
