Mr. Barber was born June 16, 1936, at Eskridge, the son of Muriel A. and Marjorie (Bell) Barber.
Mr. Barber was a telephone repairman for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Herington until he retired 1998. He also trained horses at his ranch north of Herington.
He married Janice M. Johnson July 28, 1957, at Council Grove; she preceded him in death Dec. 16, 2007. He was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Doris Barber in April 6, 2001, and his parents.
He is survived by a daughter Ginger Vaughn of Herington; four sons, Rodney Barber of Delavan, Rick Barber of Denison, TX, Bill Barber of Herington, and Kory Barber of Hesston; eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Leland Barber of Americus and Gary Barber of White City; and two sisters, Shirley Zerbe of Council Grove and Sharon Pape of Tonganoxie.
The family requests memorials to the Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University, 1 Chalmers Hall, Manhattan, Kansas, 66506; and may be sent in care of the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS, 67449.
