Mary Eldora was born in Kingston,Caldwell County, Missouri. In 1899 her family moved to Montevallo, MO. Her family moved to Nebraska in 1907 and to Fowler, CO., in 1916. After her family moved back to Nebraska she went to school in Broken Bow. While in high school she was called upon to teach the 8th grade. She returned to high school and graduated with her sister Janie Mae in 1914 at Arnold, NE.
In 1922 she was teaching in Rocky Ford, CO., where she met Orlo St. John whom she married May 26, 1925. They lived in Rocky Ford all their married life. Survivors: a daughter Elma Marie Ballou and a son Ben Otis St. John.
