Marjorie Lucille Pea Whittier, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt "Cille" and friend, passed away November 4, 2009 in Bountiful, Utah where she had been living for the past few months.
Lucille was born November 18, 1923 in Pingree, Idaho to Miles Albert and Minnie Belle Wells Ropp Pea, the sixth of ten children. Her mother died when she was twelve years old and responsibility for three younger sisters was hers.
When she graduated from Thomas High School, she entered the St. Anthony Nursing School in Pocatello. She worked as a registered nurse for Dr. O. F. Call in Pocatello where she met Raymond Max Whittier. They were married May 10, 1947 in Pocatello. She continued her nursing career working nights at St. Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City so she could be home during the day to care for her family while Max attended University of Utah Law School.
After Max graduated they moved back to Pocatello where they raised their family. Lucille enjoyed bowling and won many awards. She enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with her husband, children and grandchildren and was always the most avid and vocal fan at their extracurricular activities.
Lucille was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Max and Lucille were sealed in the Idaho Falls temple on February 25, 1977.
Lucille is survived by children Cheryl Christine Whittier of Pocatello, Charlene (Mark) Burk of Farmington, Utah, and Monte (Denise) Whittier of Boise, Idaho and seven grandchildren, Spencer, Scott, Nathan and Neal Burk, Jason, Sarah and Sadie Whittier. Also survived by sisters Ruby Meadors of Claremore, Oklahoma and Joyce (Bob) Swearingen of Galt, California.
Lucille was preceded in death by parents, husband Max Whittier, brothers Arvene, Merle, Loren and Harold Pea, sisters Dorothy Rupp, Geneva Dix and Virginia P. Powell.
Funeral services for Lucille will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Rd. with Bishop Rick Parker conducting. A viewing will be held Saturday from 12:30-1:30 prior to services. The interment will follow the services at Mountain View Cemetery.
