PANHANDLE - (Spc) - A former Panhandle man, Donald Dwayne McKenzie, 42, who has lived in Panhandle until two years ago, was killed Friday in a helicopter crash near San Marcos.
Mr. McKenzie was the pilot of a single occupant of the model R-22, small two-seated helicopter that crashed at 8 a.m. Friday in a field located one-and-a-half miles south of San Marcos on the east frontage road of Interstate 35 in Hays County.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Calvary Baptist Church in Panhandle. The Rev. Don Hoomes, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be Fairview Cemetery in Pampa by Smith Funeral Home.
McKenzie moved to Amarillo two years ago from Panhandle. He was born in Pampa and was a graduate of Panhandle High School. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors are his wife, Linda; a daughter, Tammy of Longview; two sons, David and Dan, both of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester R. McKenzie of Panhandle; and his sister, Mrs. Paula Jo Griggsby of Fort Worth.
