He was a member of the first graduating class of Northwestern High School, and a 4th generation owner and operator of Gasch's Funeral Home, P.A. His great-grandfather, Francis Gasch, arrived from Germany in the early 1800s as a cabinet maker.

During the Civil War he turned his woodworking craft into the construction of caskets and opened his own funeral home in Hyattsville, MD, as Francis Gasch, Undertaker.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Travers Gasch, whom he married in 1957; daughters, Coni Lynn Gasch & Claudette Gasch Lanning; grandchildren, Carson Groennewold, and Spencer, Gavin, & Marina Lanning; son-in-law, Bill Lanning.

He was preceded in death by his son, William Spencer Gasch.
