John Allen came to Lawrence village in 1835, but it was called the village of Mason then. John Allen was the founder of Mason Village aka Lawrence. He employed Eaton Branch for a year to make roads and deal with underbrush at Mason Village. When Orrin Sutton arrived in 1836, John Allen put him to work helping to build the first saw-mill in the town.
