Hennie never had the chance to meet or know her father because her father died in the Western Maryland RailRoad crash of June 17, 1905 and her father succumbed to his injuries two days later and died.
Hennie also lost an uncle in the same accident, Thomas Calvin Benner.
Hennie and her older sister went to live with their maternal grandparents, John Henry and Mary Catherine Smith Roof.
She married Maynard A. Marshall and they built a home on Mountaindale Road near the upper store. They had two daughters and remained there all their lives.
Hennie was the mother of two daughters: Ruth Virginia and Betty Louise.
Hennie was the last of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her older sister, her husband and two daughters.
She was survived by two half-sisters Evelyn Shipley of Sykesville and Mary Willard of Thurmont.
