Chief Warrant Officer Earl Scott III, assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment, 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks in Honolulu, Hawaii, died when his OH-58D "Kiowa" helicopter went down in Tikrit in Salahuddin province, north of Bagdad.

Awarded and Decorated the Army Archievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the Army Aviator Badge.

Scotty's remains arrived at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Friday, Nov 13th around 5pm. The flight line and roads at NAS were lined with sailors, soldiers and public servants. Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and Jacksonville Fire-Rescue joined hundreds of military men and women at attention as the jet carrying Scotty's flag-draped casket arrived. Rep. Ander Crenshaw, R-Jacksonville, was also on hand to pay his respects.


Earl R. Scott III, 24, passed overseas defending our country in Afghanistan November 8th, 2009. He was born in Miami, FL to Earl R. Jr. and Sandra Scott December 24th, 1984. Scotty always set very high goals for himself and had an adventurous spirit. He enjoyed spending his time camping, fishing, surfing, kite surfing, and had a devout passion for flying. He attended FCCJ where he received a fixed wing pilot license. After selling his landscaping business, he enlisted and was accepted to the U.S. Army where he became a helicopter pilot working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Aviation. He mentored many friends and neighbors and was an inspiration to everyone he met. He will be truly missed and will remain in our hearts forever. Scotty was predeceased by his grandmother Norma Dean Mallinger. He has left behind to cherish his memory, devoted parents Earl R. Scott, Jr. and Sandra Scott; brother, William Dean Scott; girlfriend, Tara Reyna; grandparents, Earl R. Scott, Sr., Dolores Scott, Ret. U.S. Navy Comm. William Dean Mallinger; aunts, Debra Shopay, Pamela Friedman, Susan Abdelnor, Victoria Arnold; uncles, Bill Arnold, Michael McKee; best-friend, Nicholas Bradley; faithful companion and beloved pit-bull, Sable; and many loving neighbors and treasured friends. Family will accept friends on Friday, Nov. 13th from 6-8 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Mandarin Chapel, 11801 San Jose Blvd. A Funeral will take place on Saturday, Nov.14th at 2 p.m. at NAS Jax Base All Saints' Chapel Bldg., 751 Birmingham Rd. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors at www.woundedwarriorproject.org. Arrangements are entrusted to Hardage Giddens Funeral Home.
