Nicolas Joseph Maison, 1er Marquis Maison, was a Marshal of France and Minister of War. He served as aide-de-camp to Minister of War Bernadotte in 1799. He joined the July Revolution in 1830 and served briefly in November 1830 as Minister of Foreign Affairs, before being sent to Vienna as ambassador. He was made ambassador to Russia in St. Petersburg in 1833. Maison served as minister of war from April 30, 1835 to September 19, 1836 after which he retired from public life.

He was created a Baron of the Empire on July 2, 1808, elevated to the rank of count on August 14, 1813; and then to that of marquis on July 31, 1817. He was made a Peer of France on June 4, 1817 and a Marshal of France on February 22, 1829.
