Capt. Daniel Tyler, 3rd, s. of Daniel Tyler, Jr. and his 2nd wife Mehitable Shurtleff, b. of record May 21, 1750 at Canterbury, Conn. He d. Apr. 29, 1832 at north adjoining Brooklyn, Conn., Æ 82 (g.s.)

On Apr. 15, 1771 at Pomfret, Conn., Daniel m. 1) Mehitable Putnam, dau. of Gen. Israel Putnam and Hannah Pope, b. at Pomfret Nov. 22, 1749. She d. Nov. 28, 1789 at Brooklyn, Conn. (g.s.). They had the following seven known children, the eldest four b. of record at Pomfret, the youngest three of record at Brooklyn, Conn.:

• i. Molly Tyler, b. Aug. 1, 1772.

• ii. Pascal Paoli Tyler, b. May 15, 1774, d. Aug. 31, 1847 at Brooklyn, Conn. (g.s.); m. Sept. 17, 1797 at Brooklyn, Conn., Elizabeth "Betsey" Baker, eldest ch. of Dr. Joseph Baker by his 2nd wife Lucy Devotion, b. Feb. 19, 1780 at Brooklyn, Conn. where she d. Oct. 9, 1862 (g.s.) Among Betsy's lineal ancestors are the immigrant Isaac Robinson late of Barnstable, Mass., the only child of Rev. John Robinson of Leiden, Holland, pastor of the 1620 Mayflower Pilgrims, to make it to America. She was also a lineal descendant of Rev. John Lothrop, the first pastor of Barnstable, Mass. Pascal and Betsy had three children of record at Brooklyn, Conn.

• iii. Daniel Putnam Tyler, b. Mar. 1, 1776, d. unm. Jan. 18, 1798 at Whitesboro, NY.

• iv. Septimus Tyler, b. Sept. 12, 1779, d. young May 26, 1782.

• v. William Putnam Tyler, b. Oct. 4, 1781; m. Jan. 1, 1809 at Brooklyn, Conn., Waty Williams.

• vi. Betsey Tyler, b. Apr. 16, 1784, d. Mar. 17, 1831 at Warren, VT (g.s.); m. Joseph Warren Eldredge, s. of Capt. James Eldredge and Lucy Gallup, b. May 17, 1777 at Stonington, Conn. He d. Apr. 3, 1842 at Warren, VT (g.s.)

• vii. Septimus Tyler, b. June 7, 1788; graduated from West Point and commissioned Assistant Quarter-Master Gen. during the War of 1812. He d. Sept. 17, 1817, of yellow fever, while on the frigate Congress, on his passage home from bearing government dispatches to Haiti, in the War of 1812.

On June 10, 1790 at Brooklyn, Conn., Daniel m. 2) Sarah Edwards, widow of Benjamin Chaplin, 3rd, and dau. of Hon. Timothy Edwards and Rhoda Ogden, b. July 11, 1761 at Elizabeth-town (now the City of Elizabeth), NJ. She d. Apr. 25, 1841 at Brooklyn, Conn. (g.s.) They had four children who are summarized in Sarah's separate memorial.

Through this 2nd marriage, Capt. Daniel Tyler and Sarah Edwards are the great grandparents of Edith Kermit Carow, the 2nd wife and First Lady with Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., 26th President of the United States.
