Charles William Maupin, age 82, a resident of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on Friday, November 6, 2009. Charles was born January 30, 1927, in Washington, Missouri, to James and Mabel (King) Maupin. On May 24, 1947, he married Dorothy Mantzey.
Charles served in the United States Navy during World War II. He received a Bachelors of Science Degree from Central Missouri State University. He also received a scholarship from the National Science Foundation to attend one year at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He taught in the state of Missouri's public school system for thirty years with the majority being at Ruskin High School in Kansas City, Missouri. He was given special recognition as an outstanding instructor by the leaders of Secondary Education programs.
Survivors include his wife of over 62 years, Dorothy (Mantzey) Maupin of Kansas City, Missouri; three daughters, Rita and husband Steve Stairs of Austin, Texas, Ruth and husband Sanford Levine of Leawood, Kansas, and Rebekah Joy Maupin, Honolulu, Hawaii; four grandchildren, Susan Lynn Stairs, Lubbock, Texas, Kathryn Stairs Moore, Dallas, Texas, Jennifer Lauren Levine, Leawood, Kansas, and Aaron Louis Levine, Leawood, Kansas; and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one older brother, James King Maupin.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. There will be a family visitation from 10:00- 11:00 a.m. at the Church on Wednesday prior to the services. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe, Missouri. Burial will be at New Salem Cemetery in Coloma, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to New Salem Cemetery and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601. Arrangements are under the direction of Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri.
