SORROW CAUSES US TO SHED TEARS, THEN THE BELIEF IN THE DIVINE PROMISES, DRIES THEM.

Born Buffalo, NY to Herbert G. and Lillian (nee Zydel) Engelhardt; husband of Sharon Baum; father of Douglas (Kathy) Engelhardt and Lori (David) Duncan; Opa to James Engelhardt and Alexandria Duncan; brother of Michael (Lynn) Engelhardt and Ruth (Edward) Madar. Uncle of Jason Engelhardt, Scott Madar and Brandon Madar. Herbie moved to Florida with his wife, Sharon, after retiring from Buffalo School System. He loved people, people loved him. He's remembered for his contagious smile, optamistic personality and never ending energy. He loved being called "Herbie". He was an Army veteran.

Written by a friend who describes Herbie well:
"Early one morning I was parked in the lot of the Golf Pro Shop of our sr. community in Florida. A guy in a golf cart pulled up beside me. I didn't know him, but I invited him to sit in my car as it was cool out there. He did, and that's how I met Herbie. We became instant friends. A few weeks later I met his brother, Mike, who lives in the same community and, also, played golf. We eventually became a team of 4 involved in the K of C Golf Traveling Group. Before we teed off, I'd ask "Same Rules?" Answer was always "Yep" which meant "play golf as well as you can with lots of laughing, joking, teasing without hurting each other". When one of us would end up with a wild ball, we'd hear "Nice Shot" from Herbie. "But it landed in the water, Herbie". Herbie would respond "Yea, but you kept your head down, you followed through, and it was a smooth stroke." That was Herbie. He always saw the positive side of everything. He was the most real, genuine guy I ever met. As we walk the fairways and stroke the ball, and someone yells, "Nice Shot," I know it will bring a smile to our faces. Thanks, Herbie, for being a brother and a friend. We'll miss walking the walk with you."

Big brother and Little sister we've been for many years.
Teasing and fighting giving me many tears.
Now the tears come from reminiscing.
The love, smiles and bond I'm missing.
Many were ready to let you go.
How they were able to do that I'll never know.
I guess they can never understand.
I wasn't ready to let go of your hand.
