He was serving with 4th Battalion The Rifles deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Rfn Allen was killed by an improvised explosive device near Sangin in central Helmand province. His platoon was conducting a routine clearance patrol.

Aged 20, he was born in Dorset and educated in Dorchester. He joined the military in spring 2009 and after completing training deployed to Afghanistan within a fire support group. He was a fit and motivated soldier who impressed with his ability and enthusiastic attitude. Phil was also a talented singer/songwriter and a big fan of The Beatles.

Rfn Allen is survived by his family, including his mother Karen Charman-Allen, stepfather Steven Allen, sisters Leah and Natasha, his fiancée Karina Pharoah, and many friends.

Funeral with full military honours was held on December 8, 2009 at Wimborne Minster.
