B-24D Liberator #41-11887 took off on a late-night bombing training flight from
Davis-Monthan Field, near Tucson, Arizona.
Failing to return from the mission, the aircraft was declared missing.
On March 7, 1943, the wreck of the plane was spotted by Civil Air Patrol. It had crashed, estimated at 03:37 hours on January 18th, into Bassett Peak, about 43 miles northeast of Tucson, or roughly midway between Tucson and Safford, Arizona.
All aboard had perished.

Galiuro Mountains is a mountain range in Graham County near Safford in the state of Arizona (AZ) which climbs to 5,791 feet (1,765.10 meters) above sea level. Located at latitude - longitude coordinates of N 32.60007 and W -110.350642.
This range covers an area of approximately 800 square miles. Of all the Galiuro Mountains peaks, Bassett Peak is the tallest at 7663 feet, Reiley Peak, Kennedy Peak, Muskhog Mountain, and Rockhouse Peak are some of the other high peaks.
